Get Committed to Winter
At the risk of sounding old - Winter isn't what it used to be. Not to say that winter weather was 'dependable', but it has become less consistent recently. This winter has been unsettlingly warm from New York city where the Winter Jam Canceled Due to Lack of Winter to Ski Resorts Without Snow. Farmers, Pine forests, skiers and snowboarders all need cold, snowy winters. Now is the time to get committed to winter.
What does it mean to be 'Committed to Winter'? It means that each of us need to reduce our carbon footprints and slow down climate change. As we work and live more efficiently, we can talk to our friends, the businesses we support, the resorts where we ski and our elected representatives about preserving winter. Step by step we will change our own lives and the world around us.
The Snow Code isn't the first call for a commitment to winter. The Save Our Snow Foundation was founded in 2006 by Alison Gannett and has been demonstrating practical, cost-effective solutions to the problem of climate change. Recently, Protect our Winters has asked skiers and snowboarders to Take The Pledge. It's encouraging to see that so many people are working to fight climate change and save the winters we love.
'In seed time learn, in harvest teach, in winter enjoy.'
- William Blake
